Leme conducts institutional visit to Maricá, Rio de Janeiro, to learn about initiatives of the Secretariat for Citizen Security

On September 3, Ramón Chaves, Leme’s Executive Manager, visited Maricá to learn about the initiatives of the Secretariat for Citizen Security and discuss potential partnerships that could contribute to strengthening public security in the municipality. During the visit, he met with Secretary Julio Cesar Veras Vieira, a PMERJ Colonel, and visited the headquarters of the Municipal Guard and the Integrated Public Security Operations Center (CIOSP).

Public Security Leadership Academy conducts immersion in Medellín

Between August 10 and 15, the first cohort of the Public Security Leadership Academy participated in an immersion program in Medellín, Colombia. Organized by Leme in partnership with FGV EBAPE and Universidad EAFIT, the program brought together classes, field activities, technical visits, and meetings with researchers, public officials, and professionals from different Colombian institutions.

On August 5, Ramón Chaves, Leme’s Executive Manager, taught a class on the role of municipalities in public security to officers participating in the second training course of the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Force. The activity discussed how municipal governments can contribute to preventing and reducing crime and presented initiatives developed by the Rio City Government in recent years.

Exchange among Rio public security professionals marks final day of immersion in Medellín

On Friday, August 14, the first cohort of the Public Security Leadership Academy concluded the class schedule of its immersion program in Medellín, Colombia. On the final day of academic activities, participants discussed evidence on police trust and legitimacy, different experiences of peace negotiations in Colombia, and lessons from the Medellín case for addressing illegal territorial control in Rio de Janeiro.

On the fourth day of activities, participants learned about different institutional approaches to addressing organized crime, covering topics related to criminal law, public security policies, integration between security and investigative forces, and the use of technology in forensic investigations.
